It hurts when paying the tax office! :( Sigh, more hard-earned money down the drain!

One thing that cheers me up though - this time next week, I’ll be trekking around (and freezing my butt off) in Berlin!

I’m back from Taiwan & Sydney! I need to blog about this, but I’m lacking the time and energy at the moment - i seriously can’t wait for the 25th to be over!

It’s 2am local time here in Taipei and I’m checking my work emails & trying to run a report which is taking ages, while dozing off at the same time. I need sleep so badly right now - need my energy for sightseeing and shopping @ Sogo tomorrow! :D

Upcoming Travel for 2009

A year ago right now, I was traipsing around in New York City, Boston & Washington DC. How time flies…

Sadly, I won’t be doing my annual jaunt to NY this year - instead, I’m heading over to Taiwan for a short break later this month with my brother. <strike>Taipei is not Manhattan/</strike>, but it would be good to get some shopping done and catch up with a few relatives while we’re there. I’ve taken medication for preventing cholera, and my typhoid/Hep A shots, so I’m all ready to go!

How depressing!

Sigh, it’s not exactly the best time to be traveling overseas right now! :(

Upcoming Travel for 2008

Looks like the Euro trip will have to wait until next time. :( On the upside, I’ll be visiting New York again in a couple of weeks’ time - this will be the 3rd visit in the past 3 years… can you tell how much I heart NY? :)

Home Again

holidays-dec07.jpg

I’m back home again, just in time for Christmas, after an awesome (and not to mention COLD) time overseas! I shopped till I dropped in New York and pigged out on food in Paris. I was surprised as to how much I loved London - it reminded me so much of Melbourne. I experienced snow for the first time in New York. In the meanwhile, I’m already thinking about the next holiday for next year! (Berlin, Prague & Vienna?)

Merry Christmas!

Upcoming Travels for 2007

There’s not much longer to go before I head off for a whirlwind tour of London & Paris. But I think I’m more excited about the fact that I’ll be going to New York again for a couple of days after Paris! I’ll also be in San Francisco to explore for 2 days before heading home. Now I’m just looking around for a jacket that’ll keep me warm while I’m overseas…

I heart NY

NYC is an amazing place. There’s so much I could say about the whole experience, but for now, I’ll just jot down a few bits and pieces, with some photos jacked from Goz (more will be added later):

Sunset at Riverside Park, looking across the Hudson River.

American Gangster was filming when we visited Harlem. If you squint, you can see Denzel Washington across the street on the right.

The Met.

Sitting on the steps of the Met, gazing out onto Fifth Ave while munching on Black & White cookies:

We saw The Producers on Broadway on our last night in NY. (We skipped the long lines in Times Square and took the subway downtown to the TKTS office at South Street Seaport to get 1/2 price tickets.)

We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, even though it was raining & windy that morning.

Canal St - We bought a handful of those ‘I love NY’ tshirts there. Canal St reminds me of Springvale!

Rice to Riches. If only we had one of these here in Melbourne!

Taking the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty.

We went to a taping of The Early Show, outside CBS. (hey, we got free pastries & coffee for being part of the audience!)

View from the Empire State Building Observation Deck.

The Strand Bookstore in Union Square - I only spent about 20 minutes here (had to rush since we needed to get Broadway tickets), but wished I’d had more time to browse! Ended up buying only 3 books (a new copy of The Catcher in the Rye, an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story collection & horrible, horrible chick lit for the plane ride to LA.)

Times Square.

Los Angeles, CA:

We joined a couple of tours while we were in LA - on our second day in LA, we went to Universal Studios. Uhh, 8 hours there seemed a little too long! After about 3 hours, I was already wishing we could just leave, but we had to stay there until 6pm, which was when the Starline Tours bus was scheduled to pick us up. The Studio Tour & Shrek 4D were probably the highlights of my day. =)

Lynette’s house on Wisteria Lane:

Another Starline Tour we joined was the Grand Tour of LA. This was really really good - we had an excellent Brad Pitt-meets-Seth Green lookalike tour guide, TJ. We visited the Hollywood Bowl, the Walk of Fame, La Brea Tar Pits, Rodeo Drive, Olvera Street, etc. Lunch was at the Farmers Market. (crepes & croissants from the French Crepe Co are delicious!)

As for the Movie Stars’ Home Tour… in my opinion, it wasn’t really worth it. I spent the 2 hours on the bus drifting in and out of sleep. We opted to skip the Beach & Shopping Tour on our last day in LA, even though we’d already prepaid for it - it just wasn’t worth the risk of getting back to the hotel late and missing our flight back to Melb. (That’s something for me to do next time I revisit LA. =)) So instead, we had a relaxing half day where took the hotel’s courtesy shuttle to the Del Amo Mall in Torrance for a bit of last-minute shopping.

Redondo Beach:

Last Minute Packing

I’m supposed to be packing (we’re flying off tomorrow morning to New York), but I’m getting distracted by the net, the sunny weather outside, paranoid thoughts about bed bugs (!!), deep vein thrombosis, lost luggage, missed flights….

Some websites that I’ve found useful in the last few weeks:
Interactive NYC Transit Map
Chowhound
NYC Subway Map

Upcoming Travels

In approximately 6 weeks’ time, I’ll be visiting New York & LA. I can’t wait - I’m excited about seeing the Empire State Building, Central Park, the MoMA, Universal Studios, Hollywood, the sun & the sand.

(But what I’m not so excited about is the 20+ hours’ of flight time.)
