One of the shows I caught up on over the Christmas break was the The City. I think the 2nd half of this season has been more entertaining than the 1st half, with more emphasis on their work life, but mostly because of the tension and animosity between Erin & Olivia, as evidenced by The Many Faces of Erin Kaplan.

A late Christmas present arrived yesterday!

I came home from work yesterday to find a parcel sitting outside the front door. It was my Christmas present from my bro (an iPod dock).
Thanks, doode! :D

There’s 20% off & free shipping from Angus & Robertson until Sunday - what to read, what to read? One of the best reads I enjoyed last year was Jeffrey Archer’s Prisoner of Birth (it was so good I even picked up a copy for my brother), so maybe another one of his books? Or maybe some chick lit

All good things come to an end

My 2 weeks’ break is almost over! I’m going to miss being able to have those spontaneous afternoon nanna naps…

Christmas 2009

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

All the healthy eating habits have gone out the window these past few weeks - I’ve been gorging myself on all things junky, like chocolate-covered gingerbread, shortbread etc. As for the gym, I’ve been a bit slack as well, although I guess I’m not the only one - in the lunchtime Pump class @ Fitness First earlier this week, the class was probably only half full. Anyway, I’ve promised myself that starting tomorrow (after tonight’s Christmas dinner with the family), I’ll attempt to be good again!

I’m back from Taiwan & Sydney! I need to blog about this, but I’m lacking the time and energy at the moment - i seriously can’t wait for the 25th to be over!

It’s 2am local time here in Taipei and I’m checking my work emails & trying to run a report which is taking ages, while dozing off at the same time. I need sleep so badly right now - need my energy for sightseeing and shopping @ Sogo tomorrow! :D

Upcoming Travel for 2009

A year ago right now, I was traipsing around in New York City, Boston & Washington DC. How time flies…

Sadly, I won’t be doing my annual jaunt to NY this year - instead, I’m heading over to Taiwan for a short break later this month with my brother. Taipei is not Manhattan, but it would be good to get some shopping done and catch up with a few relatives while we’re there. I’ve taken medication for preventing cholera, and my typhoid/Hep A shots, so I’m all ready to go!

Where did the weekend go? :(

Here’s an interesting article about one of my favourite past-times (something of which I sadly don’t get a chance to do enough): How to nap. (via the Boston Globe)

The Spellman Files

On Saturday afternoon, I had the chance to join in on the Lisa Lutz session at the Melbourne Writers Festival at ACMI (behind Fed Square), where she talked about her books in the hilarious Spellman series. The Spellman Files is one of my favourite reads, right up there with Kristen Buckley’s The Parker Grey Show.

Melbourne Writers Festival

The Spellman Files

The Spellman books (3 so far) are a comedy-mystery series, about Isabel Spellman who works for her family’s PI business. Lisa Lutz mentioned in the session that there is a distinct lack of strong female characters/role models in books who aren’t overly preoccupied with shopping or worrying about finding Mr. Right, and I think that’s what makes the Spellman series a refreshing difference from the proliferation of ‘chick lit’ out there. It’s more than a mere mystery series (the mystery in the Spellman Files doesn’t begin until over halfway through the book), but more about the evolution of a (dysfunctional) family and the dynamics within.

(Another interesting fact that was mentioned in the session: The Spellman Files was initially written as a movie script.)

Soy snacks!

Everyday when I get home from work, I make a beeline to these snacks - they are seriously addictive!
